Aviation authorities advance Advanced Air Mobility strategies in US and Germany
The aviation industry is seeing significant strategic movement toward Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), characterized by electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
In the United States, the FAA projects that AAM operations could reach 24,600 departures in their first full year of service. The agency anticipates rapid scaling, forecasting 334,800 annual departures by year three and approximately 1.6 million annual departures by year six. Initial services are expected to focus on airport shuttles, cargo feeders for remote areas, and medical transport. Manufacturers such as Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation, and Beta Technologies are targeting the 2026-2027 timeframe for operations.
In Germany, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport has introduced a new AAM strategy aimed at establishing the country as a leading hub for drone and electric air taxi development. Regional initiatives, such as the Urban Air Mobility initiative in Ingolstadt, are also fostering collaboration between research, industry, and government to integrate these new mobility solutions into local infrastructure.
