Aviation expansion continues at Belgian airports

Aviation activity is expanding in Belgium, with significant developments at both Oostende-Brugge International Airport and Brussels Airport.

Oostende-Brugge International Airport is seeking increased political support to ensure continued growth. The airport, which supports 1,252 full-time jobs and generates approximately 100 million euros in annual added value, reported a 25% increase in both passengers and cargo in 2025. CEO Nathan De Valck stated the airport aims to become a strong regional hub focusing on freight, aircraft maintenance, and business aviation. Additionally, TUI fly has increased its seat capacity at the airport by 5.3% this summer.

Meanwhile, Transavia is strengthening its presence at Brussels Airport by establishing a fully operational crew base. This move allows the Dutch low-cost carrier to hire local crew members and treat Brussels as an official home base. Following the deployment of four aircraft, Transavia plans to expand its network from Brussels, adding destinations such as Porto, Ponta Delgada, Heraklion, and Thessaloniki in the coming years.
