Aviation incident in Los Angeles and Vancouver airport privatization plans
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident at Los Angeles International Airport where a Delta Air Lines plane clipped an Air Canada aircraft. The contact occurred during taxiing, with the Delta plane’s left wingtip striking the horizontal stabilizer of the Air Canada flight. Air Canada reported no injuries, though the aircraft will be removed from service for inspections and repairs.
Separately, the Canadian federal government is planning to privatize Vancouver International Airport (YVR), making it the first major aviation hub in the country to undergo such a transition. Under the proposal, Indigenous groups, including the Musqueam First Nation and MST Development Corp., may be offered minority stakes of up to 20 percent. The government also intends to sell leases for operations at airports in Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal, a move that has raised concerns regarding potential increases in airline fees and traveler costs.
