Aviation incidents reported in India and Colombia

Authorities in India have suspended two Air India pilots following a serious incident on flight AI2379, an Airbus A320 traveling from Phuket to New Delhi. During the cruise phase, the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of altitude of approximately 300 feet, resulting in injuries to at least 17 passengers. The aircraft eventually stabilized and landed safely in Delhi.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that the pilot-in-command underwent a drug test that yielded a result requiring confirmatory analysis. Samples have been sent to a designated laboratory. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will keep both crew members grounded pending the results of the official investigation led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

In Colombia, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake centered in San José del Palmar, Chocó, has caused significant aviation disruptions. The Aerocivil reported that air operations are suspended at several airports, including Pereira, Manizales, Quibdó, Armenia, Cartago, Buenaventura, and Cali, to allow for structural damage assessments.

In response, airlines Avianca and Latam have implemented flexibility measures for affected passengers. Avianca is offering free flight rescheduling, route changes, or refunds for domestic travelers. Latam has announced similar options for passengers traveling to or from Pereira, Cali, and Armenia between August 10 and August 16.
