Aviation industry advances sustainable fuel technology and infrastructure

The aviation industry is seeing significant developments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) infrastructure and feedstock technology. Infinium has launched its mSAF platform, which utilizes methane-derived feedstocks such as renewable natural gas, biogas, and flare gas to produce low-carbon aviation fuel. This platform complements the company’s existing CO2-based eSAF business and aims to address the industry's need for multiple scalable fuel pathways.

In Australia, Viva Energy has secured $2.39 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to develop SAF infrastructure. The project, part of a $4.93 million total investment, will refurbish and upgrade the Pinkenba Terminal in Brisbane. This includes reconditioning a fuel storage tank to provide dedicated storage for SAF, which will then be distributed to Brisbane Airport via pipeline.
