Aviation industry codeshare agreements explained

The commercial aviation industry utilizes codeshare agreements to allow multiple airlines to market the same flight under different flight numbers. While one airline sells the ticket, another company is responsible for operating the actual aircraft, crew, and service.

This practice is common among airline alliances, such as SkyTeam. For instance, Aerolíneas Argentinas may sell tickets for flights to Mexico City that are actually operated by Aeroméxico. In such cases, the flight might carry different codes, such as AR7403 and AM30, despite being the exact same flight. While these agreements expand travel options, they can occasionally cause confusion for passengers when the airline listed on their boarding pass differs from the one that operates the flight.
