Aviation industry faces fleet availability and technological challenges

The aeronautical industry is currently navigating significant challenges regarding fleet availability and the evolution of next-generation aircraft. While newer engines offer improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions, their sophisticated designs and materials have led to issues such as decreased component durability, the need for extraordinary inspections, and a shortage of spare parts. This has resulted in aircraft remaining grounded despite high passenger demand, forcing companies to adjust schedules or increase costs.

At a recent industry summit in Cádiz, Spain, experts and leaders discussed the technological advancements required for the future of flight. Anna Veclani, Boeing’s director for Southern Europe, emphasized that the next generation of aircraft will depend on rigorous preparation, including consolidated technologies, robust supply chains, and highly qualified personnel. Veclani highlighted the importance of international cooperation and identified the Spanish industrial and academic ecosystem as a potential key partner in transforming innovation into value.
