Aviation infrastructure expands at Bohol-Panglao and Bhubaneswar airports

Major airport infrastructure projects are underway in the Philippines and India to address rising passenger demand.

In the Philippines, the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) is advancing a P4.53-billion modernization and development program. Operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corp. (ABAC) under a 30-year public-private partnership, the investment focuses on infrastructure, operational reliability, and passenger services. Recent improvements include restoring critical systems such as elevators and baggage carousels, as well as upgrading safety protocols. The airport has also expanded its capacity to accommodate Airbus A330 aircraft.

In India, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed a new Terminal 3 at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. Estimated to cost over ₹1,200 crore, the project has been submitted to the Union Finance Ministry’s Public Investment Board for approval. If realized, the terminal is expected to handle 8.6 million passengers annually and will integrate domestic and international flight operations under a single roof to streamline passenger experiences.
