Aviation pioneers honored in Paraguay and Spain

Commemorations are being held to honor aviation pioneers in Paraguay and Spain.

In Paraguay, the legacy of Silvio Pettirossi is recognized 110 years after his death. Born in Asunción, Pettirossi trained in France at the Deperdussin flight school. He is credited with performing the first official recorded flight in Paraguay in November 1914, an event that established him as a national hero and a key figure in the country's aeronautical development.

In Ourense, Spain, tributes were held to mark the centenary of major Spanish aviation flights. The ceremony included a floral offering to aviator Joaquín Loriga and honored several local figures, including soldiers lost in aerial tragedies and pilots such as Germán Varela, who recorded 42,000 flight hours. The event also preceded an exhibition titled ‘Centenario de los Grandes Vuelos de la Aviación Española’.
