Aviation sector expands in Mallorca through acquisitions and fleet growth

The aviation sector in Mallorca is undergoing significant structural changes following regulatory approvals and strategic expansions at Son Sant Joan Airport.

Spain’s National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has authorized the acquisition of Mallorcair by United Aviation Services. Mallorcair, which has been owned by the Ferrer and Mudoy families since 1991, specializes in executive aviation handling and Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services. The company will continue to operate under its existing brand and management team, maintaining its recent contract with Aena to manage the executive terminal for five years.

Simultaneously, Eurowings, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding its operations in Mallorca. The airline is adding three aircraft to its permanent fleet in Palma, connecting the island to 26 airports in Central Europe. As part of this expansion, Eurowings has signed a maintenance agreement with Globalia to service its fleet at the Palma hangars. This move is expected to increase technical and crew staffing, transitioning the base from a seasonal operation to a more stable industrial hub for aircraft maintenance.
