Wizz Air and Ryanair expand operations in Europe
Wizz Air is expanding its flight network in Central and Eastern Europe. The airline will launch a new route from Bratislava to Sarajevo starting December 3, 2026. During the winter season, flights will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, increasing to three times weekly during the 2027 summer season. Additionally, Wizz Air is expanding its presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina by introducing new routes from Sarajevo to Bratislava, Berlin, and Prague.
In Poland, Ryanair is considering Sosnowiec as the site for a major €500 million aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center. The project, which could create 600 skilled jobs, is currently competing against an offer from Spain. A final decision is expected by the end of the year, with construction potentially beginning in early 2027 and operations starting in 2029.
Meanwhile, the Lufthansa Group has joined calls from Bosnian airports to reintroduce a moratorium on passenger fees to improve regional market competitiveness.
