Avid has announced Media Composer 2026. 8, a new version of its non-linear editing software scheduled for release on September 1. The update introduces several AI-driven and agentic capabilities designed to automate content preparation and streamline workflows.

Key features include ‘Ready to Edit,’ an agentic capability for automating preparation, and the ‘PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto Cut,’ which selects camera angles based on speakers and places cuts on speech boundaries. The software also integrates a Google Gemini panel for embedded AI capabilities and features enhanced transcript tools, such as segment splitting and continuous playback.

Collaboration is expanded through Shared Projects, with Avid NEXIS support available from the Standard tier upward. The Enterprise tier will include support for qualified third-party storage solutions. Additionally, the update improves interoperability via an updated OpenTimelineIO 2.0 adapter and provides an expanded entry-level experience through Media Composer First.
