Avigdor Liberman proposes Jordanian role in West Bank administration
Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Yisrael Beytenu party, has proposed a new administrative framework for the West Bank that involves Jordan. Liberman suggested that Jordan should assume security and administrative responsibility for Areas A and B, potentially through an Israeli-Jordanian confederation, to prevent a security vacuum. He argued that the Palestinian Authority has become “bankrupt” and expressed absolute rejection of any role for the Palestinian Authority in civil or security matters.
In addition to the proposal regarding Areas A and B, Liberman called for full Israeli sovereignty over Area C, which constitutes approximately 60% of the West Bank.
The proposal has triggered significant political backlash within the Israeli government. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized Liberman, accusing him of moving to the left and demanding an immediate retraction. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also condemned the suggestion, accusing Liberman of attempting to relinquish Israeli control over the territory.
