Avincis to acquire five McDermott 214ST helicopters for firefighting

Avincis, a leading European aerial emergency services operator, has signed a Letter of Intent with McDermott Aviation to acquire five McDermott 214ST medium-lift twin-turbine helicopters. The acquisition aims to expand rotary-wing capacity for aerial firefighting and critical utility missions in response to rising demand.

The aircraft will be deployed across Avincis’ operating regions based on seasonal wildfire demand and operational needs. The 214ST features twin CT7-2A engines and is designed for high-capacity tasks, including water-dropping, crew transport, and external-load operations in remote or confined locations. Technical specifications include a useful load of up to 3,000 kg, a maximum external hook load of 3,582 kg, and a cruise speed of 120 knots.

This investment follows a period of significant activity for Avincis. By August 31, 2026, the company reported completing over 12,600 firefighting flight hours and nearly 5,400 missions across Spain, Portugal, and Italy, during which it dropped more than 225 million litres of water.
