Avinor sanctions taxi drivers at Oslo Airport over fraud

Avinor has issued sanctions against hundreds of taxi drivers at Oslo Airport Gardermoen following reports of fraudulent activity and regulatory violations. So far this year, the airport operator has penalized drivers 477 times. These sanctions include banning drivers from offering trips from the airport and issuing 471 fines of 1,050 NOK each to those failing to follow signage.

Ten drivers have been reported to the police for violations of the Road Traffic Act and the Professional Transport Act. The issues stem from drivers attempting to bypass the airport’s official digital booking system—where customers receive price quotes from multiple companies—by intercepting passengers in the terminal or at former pickup points. Some victims have reportedly been charged over 20,000 NOK for trips to central Oslo.

Torbjørn Brenna, director of the Norwegian Taxi Association, stated that bypassing established airport procedures and misleading customers is unacceptable. In response to the situation, Avinor is considering reinstating uniformed security guards at taxi areas to maintain order.
