Aviron Loire Océan completes Nantes island tour, hosts Vertou canoe club

Aviron Loire Océan (ALO) returned from Couëron on April 11, 2026 with six sea yoles carrying 23 participants for its traditional tour of the Île de Nantes. The group stopped at the Centre Nautique Sèvre et Loire (CNSL) for a communal lunch and to view the new Anne de Bretagne bridge before heading back to Couëron.

During the day an ALO member, Jean‑Marie, met with Jean‑Jacques to begin repainting his Ilur hull, and ALO volunteers assisted. Later the Vertou Canoë‑Kayak club arrived unexpectedly after a 10‑year‑old child suffered from cold exposure while paddling under the Cheviré bridge. The club, consisting of 19 boats and two qualified monitors, used the CNSL facilities to warm the child, picnic and then continue their trip. Bevis organised a rowing initiation session on the water, providing oars and a short navigation for participants.

The event highlighted community collaboration among local rowing and canoe clubs, with a lively day of sport, assistance, and shared meals at the CNSL.
