AVIS advocates for free blood donation and self-sufficiency in Italy

Oscar Bianchi, president of AVIS Nazionale, has emphasized the importance of protecting the free nature of blood donation and achieving self-sufficiency, particularly regarding plasma-derived products. Speaking at a conference titled “Gratuità, fiducia e innovazione. I principi che guidano il futuro del sistema trasfusionale italiano” held at the Italian Senate, Bianchi stated that the association aims to ensure medical care for everyone without relying on market-driven logic.

The event was promoted by the Parliamentary Intergroup of Blood Donors, led by Sandro Sisler, in collaboration with AVIS. The discussions have led to the development of a Manifesto of the Gratuitousness of Donation, intended to be shared across all components of the transfusion system. The primary goal remains increasing the number of donors and donations to overcome daily obstacles and guarantee indiscriminate care for those in need.
