Avista and NW Natural approve rate changes for Idaho and Washington customers
Avista Corp filed annual natural gas and electric rate adjustment requests with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. If the filings are approved, residential natural gas customers in Idaho would see their monthly bill fall from $59.28 to $58.38 – a 1.5% reduction – effective November 1 2026. At the same time, residential electric customers would see their bill rise from $119.52 to $127.28 – a 6.5% increase – effective October 1 2026.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved a multi‑year rate plan for Northwest Natural Gas (NW Natural) that will raise bills for Southwest Washington customers beginning August 1 2026. The first‑year increase is $12.81 per month, followed by $4.94 in 2027 and $5.24 in 2028. The order also added consumer‑protection measures, including raising the non‑payment disconnection threshold to $250, limiting credit‑bureau reporting of late gas bills, requiring a language‑access plan, and mandating periodic reviews of low‑income assistance. NW Natural serves roughly 2 million people across more than 140 communities.
