AVM FritzBox 4630 Reviewed: Wi‑Fi 7 Specs and QoS Prioritisation Guide

The AVM FritzBox 4630 is presented as a standalone Wi‑Fi 7 router aimed at users with existing cable, DSL, fiber or Starlink modems. It supports dual‑band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz operation, delivers up to 3.5 Gbps theoretical speed and offers a 2.5 Gbps WAN port, an additional 2.5 Gbps LAN port, two gigabit LAN ports and a USB‑3.0 interface. The device also includes a DECT base station, an analog telephone socket and mesh‑compatible firmware.

Setup is guided by an assistant in the web interface or the MyFritz app, allowing quick connection to the upstream modem. The FritzBox’s operating system, FritzOS, provides a clear UI for network management, VPN configuration and automatic integration of existing Fritz‑Mesh components.

A separate guide explains the router’s Quality of Service (QoS) features, which sort traffic into three priority levels – real‑time applications (e.g., VoIP, IPTV), prioritized applications (e.g., gaming, VPN) and background applications (e.g., updates, cloud sync). Users can assign priority to individual devices or specific applications, noting that QoS applies only to IPv4 traffic and is disabled when the FritzBox functions as a mesh repeater or on a guest network.
