AVN celebrates 100 years of nature conservation in The Hague

The Algemene Vereniging voor Natuurbescherming (AVN) for The Hague and surrounding areas is celebrating its centenary this September. Founded in 1926 to preserve the local landscape, the organization is marking the milestone with a series of events.

Activities include a symposium on biodiversity at Theater Diligentia featuring experts such as Louise Vet and Joeri Morpurgo, as well as a jubilee reception attended by Mayor Jan van Zanen. The celebration will also include the presentation of a commemorative book titled ‘AVN 1926-2026 - Honderd jaar natuurlobby’ and a nature film afternoon at Museon-Omniversum in November.

AVN Chairman Dick Ooms noted that while the centenary is a significant milestone, it also serves as a starting point to address the ongoing pressure on nature and green spaces in the The Hague region.
