Avándaro Festival: 55 years of Mexican rock history

The Avándaro Rock and Wheels Festival, held on September 11 and 12, 1971, in Valle de Bravo, remains a landmark cultural and musical milestone in Mexico. Originally conceived by Alfonso and Eduardo López Negrete as a car race accompanied by a Mexican-style party, the event evolved into a massive musical gathering involving producers like Luis de Llano and Armando Molina.

While historical accounts often associate the festival with disorder, drugs, and nudity, attendees recall a sense of community where people shared food and water.
