Avnik Castle investigated for links to Dede Korkut stories

Researchers and local officials have conducted investigations at Avnik Castle, located in the Köprüköy district of Erzurum, to trace the historical and literary connections to the Dede Korkut stories.

Murat Ertaş, President of the Erzurum Branch of the Turkish Language and Literature Association, noted that the Dede Korkut Book identifies the Erzurum region as a central cultural geography. Specifically, Avnik Castle serves as a strategic location within the tales, such as the story of Bamsı Beyrek, where it is depicted as a site for caravan raids and battles.

Plans are being discussed to hold the first Dede Korkut Festival at Avnik Castle in collaboration with the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality to highlight these cultural links.
