Šavnik to establish Regional Cultural Center at Borislav Pekić House

The Municipality of Šavnik and the Montenegrin National Theatre (CNP) have signed a cooperation agreement to transform the ‘Borislav Pekić House’ into a Regional Cultural Center in northern Montenegro.

This initiative aims to decentralize cultural life and create new artistic content in regions where such resources are less accessible. The center is intended to serve as a hub for artist residencies, the development of new dramatic texts, public drama readings, and various research activities.

The project also seeks to preserve and revalorize the literary legacy of Borislav Pekić, one of the most significant writers of the 20th century, whose roots are tied to the Šavnik region. CNP Director Ilija Subotić noted that the goal is for Šavnik to move beyond being a mere recipient of culture to becoming an active space where culture is created.
