Avocado intake linked to health benefits and risks for humans and dogs

Daily consumption of avocado provides notable nutrients such as healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and vitamins A, K, E and B‑complex. Studies cite benefits for satiety, digestion, skin elasticity, heart‑cholesterol regulation and anti‑inflammatory effects. However, the fruit is calorie‑dense (about 280 kcal per 200 g) and excess intake may lead to unwanted weight gain.

For dogs, the fruit contains persin, especially concentrated in the skin and pit, which can cause gastrointestinal upset, pancreatitis and, in severe cases, heart‑muscle damage. Reported symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, breathing difficulties and irregular heartbeat. Cases are rare, but owners are advised to keep avocado parts away from pets.
