Avocado production in Turkey yields up to 400,000 TL per decare

Avocado production in Turkey has transformed into a highly profitable agricultural sector, with farmers earning up to 400,000 TL per decare (dönüm) under optimal conditions. Once considered commercially insignificant, the fruit is now referred to as ‘green gold’ due to its high market value and rising global demand.

Production is primarily concentrated along Turkey’s southern coasts, particularly in the Antalya region, including Alanya and Gazipaşa. These areas provide the tropical climate necessary for successful cultivation. In Alanya, production targets are ambitious, with a goal of reaching 150 million units by 2026.

The sector benefits from both domestic consumption and strong export potential. While Turkey imports avocados during the summer to meet local needs, it exports its domestic harvest during the autumn and winter months. Key export markets include Russia, Ukraine, and various Western European countries, providing significant foreign currency income for local producers.
