Avon and Somerset Police arrest over 100 drivers in World Cup‑linked crackdown

During Operation Limit, a dedicated road‑safety campaign tied to the FIFA Men’s World Cup, Avon and Somerset Police stopped 465 motorists and arrested 113 drivers for drink‑ or drug‑driving. The operation, focused on England match days, used proactive patrols, intelligence‑led stops and ANPR alerts. Eighty‑two arrests were for suspected drug offences and thirty‑one for drink‑driving, with the majority of suspects male and aged between 25 and 60. Inspector Matt Boiles said the crackdown aims to prevent serious collisions by removing impaired drivers from the road and highlighted a rising trend in drug‑driving. The police urged the public to report suspected impaired drivers, noting that public tips helped shape the operation’s focus.
