Avrechy: Manure tanker spill causes 8-meter geyser on RD916
In the early hours of September 25, 2026, a technical incident involving a manure tanker occurred in the hamlet of Argenlieu, near Avrechy in the Oise department of France. A truck carrying 30,000 liters of manure experienced a sudden rise in internal pressure while parked on the RD916 road.
To prevent a potential explosion of the tank, the driver was forced to manually open a valve. This resulted in an emergency degassing that created a geyser of effluent reaching approximately 8 meters in height. The spill dispersed a large volume of malodorous liquid across the roadway and nearby parked vehicles.
Authorities closed the RD916 to traffic to manage the scene. A specialized cleaning company was deployed to pump the excess liquid, scrape the road surface, and neutralize the persistent odors to ensure the road could be reopened for local school traffic.
