Avril Lavigne celebrates 42nd birthday amid career milestones and conspiracy theories

Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is celebrating her 42nd birthday, marking a career that has seen her sell over 40 million albums and 30 million singles. Since her international breakthrough with the 2002 album ‘Let Go’, she has become a defining icon of the pop-punk genre.

Her birthday has also reignited a long-standing internet conspiracy theory claiming that the singer died in the early 2000s and was replaced by a look-alike named Melissa Vandella. The theory, which gained traction via a Brazilian blog in 2011, suggests a record company cover-up. Lavigne has dismissed these claims as ‘dumb’, noting that changes in her appearance are simply a result of aging and evolving style.

Lavigne’s musical journey began in Ontario performing country music before she signed with Arista Records at age 16. Her career includes eight Grammy nominations, nine Juno Awards, and various ventures into fashion and fragrance.
