Avrohom Yitzchok Juravel, Kashrus expert, passes away
Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Juravel, a highly regarded expert in the field of Kashrus, has passed away at the age of 74 following an illness. A longtime resident of Monsey, Rav Juravel was recognized internationally for his ability to bridge the gap between Halacha and the technical complexities of modern industrial food production.
Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, he served in several significant roles, most notably as the Rabbinic Coordinator for Technical Services at OU Kosher. His expertise included a deep understanding of factory equipment, food chemistry, piping systems, and industrial cleaning processes. This specialized knowledge made him a vital resource for rabbis, food manufacturers, and Kashrus organizations worldwide.
Rav Juravel’s work in Kashrus was a family legacy; he was a third-generation expert, following his father, Rav Yosef Eliezer Juravel, and his grandfather, Rav Shmuel Zev Juravel, who both served as Shochtim. In addition to his work with the Orthodox Union, he held positions with the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis and served as a Mashgiach under Rav Yaakov Posen.
