Avs leader calls for program focus over leadership race

Leaders within the 'Campo Largo' center-left coalition are expressing frustration over the ongoing competition for leadership ahead of upcoming elections. Angelo Bonelli of Avs has called for a halt to the race for leadership, arguing that the focus should instead be on constructing a unified political program for the country.

Bonelli stated that the rivalry between potential candidates, specifically Elly Schlein of the Democratic Party and Giuseppe Conte of the Five Star Movement, is irritating the electorate and preventing the alliance from addressing core political priorities. He suggested that a political table be established to define programmatic priorities and the rules for selecting a prime ministerial candidate, rather than allowing personal ambitions to fracture the coalition.

This stance follows similar warnings from Nicola Fratoianni, who also cautioned against personal ambitions. While Schlein and Conte have moved at different speeds regarding leadership and primary elections, Avs is pushing for a consensus on policy before deciding on a single candidate.
