AVS party leaders meet in Rome to discuss alliances and Middle East policy

Leaders of the Italian opposition gathered in Rome for the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (AVS) party event to discuss coalition building, security, and foreign policy.

Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein addressed the future of the center-left, stating that the focus should remain on implementing the anti-fascist Constitution rather than focusing on specific political names or acronyms. Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, Schlein advocated for the recognition of a Palestinian state and called for the suspension of EU-Israel agreements. She also urged the current government to follow the lead of nations like France, the UK, and Canada by banning trade involving products from illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Giuseppe Conte, leader of the Five Star Movement, also spoke at the event alongside other coalition members to discuss the political agenda and the prospects for a future government.
