Awka gunmen kill two and injure others in multiple shootings

Unidentified gunmen carried out a series of shootings in Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, resulting in at least two deaths and several injuries. The assailants reportedly traveled in a silver Toyota Corolla and targeted multiple locations, including Amaenyi and S. M. Okeke Street.

One victim has been identified as Isaac Nwosu, also known as ‘Aiza’. The shootings caused widespread panic in densely populated areas, affecting people near local businesses and religious sites. While the motive for the attack remains unknown, the incident has disrupted local nightlife and heightened security concerns in the state capital.

The Anambra State Police Command has condemned the attack and launched an investigation through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Police have intensified patrols and manhunts for the suspects, recovering items such as cash and an ATM card from the scenes.
