AWO opens new mental health residential facility in Braunschweig
The AWO-Bezirksverband Braunschweig has opened a new residential facility at Inselwall in Braunschweig, Germany, specifically designed for individuals with mental illnesses. The new location serves as an extension of the Social Psychiatric Center.
The facility utilizes small shared apartments, each housing two to three people, to foster greater independence among residents. This model aims to prepare individuals for living outside of institutional settings. While the focus is on autonomy, residents continue to receive support in daily activities, including work, leisure, and household management.
Support is provided both in person and digitally via tablets. The opening ceremony was attended by Braunschweig Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum and State Secretary Dr. Christine Arbogast, who noted the welcoming and residential design of the new premises.
