AWS awards $1.8M to 11 pediatric AI innovation projects
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has awarded more than $1.8 million in cash and cloud computing credits to 11 pediatric AI projects through its 2026 AWS Imagine Grant Children’s Health Innovation Award. The initiative aims to accelerate medical innovation by using advanced cloud services to improve health outcomes for children.
Selected recipients include several major children’s hospitals. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is expanding its GENIUS machine learning platform to additional neonatal intensive care units, a tool that has reportedly reduced genetic diagnosis time for critically ill infants by 50 percent. Seattle Children’s Hospital and Cook Children’s Health Care System are developing cloud platforms to analyze epilepsy data and unify clinical data for rare and drug-resistant conditions. Other projects include medication adherence prediction at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and pediatric transplant care tools at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
Additionally, Lukas Chavez of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute received funding and credits to develop an AI-powered system designed to help clinicians analyze complex data from children with cancer to identify personalized treatment options more rapidly.
