AWS engineers release Pizza Bot open-source AI agent inbox

Engineers from AWS have released Pizza Bot, an open-source, local-first inbox designed for managing long-running AI agents. Developed at Amazon, the tool provides an email-like interface to handle asynchronous tasks and permission requests.

Instead of requiring users to monitor active chat windows, Pizza Bot organizes agent interactions into threads. Completed work and detailed reports are directed to an ‘Unread’ category, while tasks requiring human intervention or decision-making are placed in an ‘Action’ queue. This allows users to delegate work to AI agents and return to the results at their convenience.

The software supports various model providers, including Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and Ollama. It features a stateful runtime using DeepAgents and LangGraph, supporting desktop, web, and terminal CLI environments. Pizza Bot includes built-in features for human-in-the-loop approvals, long-term memory, and explicit local file access control.
