AWS Marketing Chief Julia White Says AI Boosts Productivity but Requires Failure
Julia White, senior marketing director at Amazon Web Services, told Euronews Next at the VivaTech conference in Paris that early experimentation with AI agents lifted productivity by 10‑30 % and, after redesigning workflows, delivered up to five‑fold efficiency gains. By integrating AI into existing processes, the team cut the time to create a new web page—from three hours and several people to just 30 minutes—thanks to AI handling much of the heavy lifting.
White emphasized that AI cannot replace human creativity, describing it as “a great partner for thinking, but it does not dictate taste.” Her team uses Amazon Q as a collaborative assistant rather than a decision‑maker, which has led to a “decisive brand narrative” that even moved colleagues to tears. To foster innovation, she introduced a “Be Brave” award that celebrates failed attempts, arguing that "failure is necessary on the path to mastery." White also highlighted the potential for highly personalized marketing at scale, now feasible with AI.
She urged other leaders to start using AI directly, warning that merely reading or hearing about it will cause them to miss critical opportunities and compromise effective team leadership.
