AWS prepares October pricing update for GPU capacity blocks
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expected to update its pricing for EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML in October. While social media reports suggest a 15% price hike starting October 7, AWS has not officially confirmed this specific percentage or date in its formal documentation.
AWS pricing for these GPU reservation products is subject to regular adjustments based on supply and demand. The service allows enterprises to pre-book GPU capacity for machine learning workloads. Previous price increases were recorded in January and July, with the latter seeing an approximate 20% rise for certain instances.
To support growing AI training and inference needs, AWS and NVIDIA have announced plans to deploy over one million NVIDIA GPUs across AWS global regions starting in 2026. Current pricing structures for Capacity Blocks differ from standard on-demand instances or Savings Plans, as they are specifically designed for securing dedicated capacity for a set period.
