AWS reports sustainable AI infrastructure growth and rapid server ROI
Amazon Web Services (AWS) CFO John Felton stated that the boom in AI infrastructure and service spending is sustainable, noting that the company sees a return on investment for AI servers in less than three years. AWS reported second-quarter revenue of $42.2 billion, a 36.7% year-over-year increase, with AI-related annualized revenue exceeding $25 billion. Felton highlighted a backlog of nearly $500 billion in orders from a diverse client base including large enterprises and AI research labs.
In other developments, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the company is developing humanoid robots, focusing on creating the “brain” to drive them. While Altman expects a notable demonstration prototype by 2027, he noted that robots entering the streets may take several more years. The company is currently recruiting for various roles in motion control and machine learning infrastructure to support this goal.
Additionally, Elon Musk announced that his team is developing “Hagglebot,” an AI-powered specialized negotiation tool designed for business scenarios. Musk estimates the software could improve corporate cost efficiency by 5% or more.
