AWS supports NBA Math Hoops education initiative in South Africa

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has committed AI and cloud technology to support NBA Math Hoops in South Africa. The initiative, in partnership with the nonprofit Learn Fresh, aims to use basketball-based learning to improve math and social-emotional skills for students aged 8-14.

Through the AWS Education Equity Initiative, the company will provide technical expertise and infrastructure to reach 1,000 students in Johannesburg, with plans to expand the program to other African countries next year. The program follows a three-year pilot that included training for educators in South Africa, Botswana, and Mozambique. AWS services will power the program’s mobile app and games to help address numeracy gaps in the region.
