The deodorant brand AXE has provided guidance on managing skin hydration and the physiological effects of caffeine on sweating.
To prevent dry, itchy skin after showering, experts suggest avoiding excessively hot water, which can strip natural oils. Recommendations include using lukewarm or cold water, selecting body washes containing hydrating ingredients like glycerin, shea butter, or ceramides, and limiting shower duration to five to ten minutes. Applying moisturizer while skin is still semi-damp is also advised to lock in moisture.
Regarding perspiration, caffeine acts as a stimulant that activates the central nervous system, which in turn triggers sweat glands. Unilever R&D scientist Matt Annecharico notes that caffeine can increase heart rate and contribute to sweating patterns via the autonomic nervous system. While regular sweat is primarily water, caffeine can also trigger sweat from glands that produce proteins and fats, which may lead to body odor when broken down by bacteria.
