Axel Buberl to step down from World Economic Forum role

AXA CEO Axel Buberl has announced his decision not to renew his mandate at the World Economic Forum (WEF). Following discussions with the AXA supervisory board, Buberl confirmed his term as chairman of the WEF Audit and Risk Committee expired on August 23.

Buberl noted that his final six years at the WEF were particularly intense. He highlighted the responsibility of his role in addressing whistleblower allegations against Klaus and Hilde Schwab. While an investigation by the WEF foundation board ultimately cleared Klaus Schwab, Buberl emphasized that ensuring a thorough investigation was a primary duty of his position.

The search for a new WEF president remains open. While ECB President Christine Lagarde is considered a leading candidate, Buberl has advocated for a broader selection process.
