Axel Hellmann says Germany has strong chances for 2042 World Cup bid
Axel Hellmann, the board spokesperson for Eintracht Frankfurt, told The Athletic that Germany enjoys good prospects of submitting a bid for the 2042 FIFA World Cup and even considers a possible bid for 2038. He said the final decision rests with German Football Association (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf.
Hellmann stressed that Germany already has the necessary infrastructure, citing the 1974 and 2006 tournaments, but warned that a successful bid would require a massive investment programme and the renovation or construction of additional stadiums to meet the expanded 48‑team format. He added, “Jedes Spiel wird ausverkauft sein. Das wird ein Erfolg.”
