Telegraph to cut 100 jobs during AI-driven transformation

The Telegraph Media Group is implementing significant job cuts, with approximately 100 employees expected to be made redundant. The layoffs will primarily impact the culture and sports departments as part of a strategic overhaul following the acquisition of the publication by German media group Axel Springer earlier this year.

Telegraph CEO Carolin Hulshoff Pol stated that the goal is to transform the traditional newspaper into a “global, AI-powered premium media and intelligence business.” The restructuring aims to increase operational efficiency and adapt to rapid technological changes in the media industry. The new strategy will focus on diversifying revenue through video, audio, events, licensing, and commerce, while expanding international coverage in areas such as foreign affairs, defense, and business.

The acquisition by Axel Springer, valued at approximately £575 million ($769 million), ended three years of ownership uncertainty for the British title. Under the new leadership, the Telegraph joins a portfolio of media brands including Politico, Business Insider, Bild, and Die Welt.
