Axim identified as strategic economic hub for Ghana

Stakeholders at the Axim Business & Development Summit 2026 have called for enhanced partnerships between traditional leaders, government, and the private sector to drive sustainable growth in the Nzema Traditional Area. The summit focused on converting local economic potential into job opportunities and long-term community development.

Parallel to these discussions, the Ghanaian government has identified Axim as a strategic economic hub. The development strategy aims to leverage the region's agricultural assets, fisheries, and coastal location through agro-processing and the blue economy. By integrating production, processing, and trade into a continuous value chain, officials intend to move local enterprises beyond raw material sales into higher-value activities.

Key government initiatives supporting this transition include the National Agribusiness Policy, the 24-Hour Economy Policy, and the Feed the Industry Programme. Additionally, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is viewed as a mechanism for Axim-based businesses to access international markets, provided they meet global quality standards. The expansion of fisheries is expected to utilize the area's 13 landing beaches to support local enterprises, particularly those led by women and youth.
