Axl Rose performs through TMJ disorder and jaw numbness

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose revealed he is struggling with a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder while performing a three-hour set at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Rose explained to the audience that he recently underwent dental work to address the condition, which has left one side of his mouth feeling numb and made singing challenging.

Rose described the sensation of singing with the disorder as hearing popping sounds in his ear, comparing it to someone eating crunchy food near him. He noted that the physical requirements of his vocal performance, which involve stretching the face in various ways, make managing the jaw condition difficult.

TMJ disorder involves pain and stiffness in the jaw joint and the muscles controlling jaw movement. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition can be caused by factors such as teeth clenching or grinding.
