Axo Metals wins Mexican environmental approval for San Antonio gold project

Mexico’s federal environmental agency, SEMARNAT, has approved the Manifestación de Impacto Ambiental (MIA) for Axo Metals Corp.’s San Antonio gold project in Sonora, granting the primary permit required to build and operate the mine. CEO Jonathan Egilo called the decision the “definitive green light” and said the company will use the existing infrastructure – including the former Luz del Cobre open‑pit, a 4,000‑tonne‑per‑day mill, processing plant and supporting facilities – to restart production. The project holds over 1.1 million ounces of gold across the Sapuchi, Golfo de Oro and California deposits. Axo, a Canadian explorer that acquired the asset from Osisko in early 2026, is completing a routine land‑use change (CUS) filing before mining can begin. Drilling is ongoing and a preliminary economic assessment is being prepared.
