Ayacucho native potato snacks attract consumers at national fair

During the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, producers from Ayacucho showcased a range of snacks made from native potato varieties such as huayro macho, sumaq, and red‑ and blue‑skinned types. The venture Tchiz set up a stand in Canaán where they offered plain, spicy (ají), oregano‑flavored and salt‑rose versions, emphasizing the transition of traditional crops into higher‑value processed foods.

Representatives explained that the initiative aims to revive interest in Peru’s thousands of native potato cultivars, support small high‑Andean farmers, and create new market opportunities.
