Ayacucho seeks to boost agroindustry through technological advancement
The 25th National Congress of Agroindustrial Engineering Students will be held in Ayacucho from November 9 to 13. A central theme of the event is the need to strengthen raw material transformation and technological capabilities within the regional agroindustry.
Organizers have identified a lack of specialized infrastructure as a primary challenge for students and professionals seeking to convert regional agricultural production into high-value-added products. While the Instituto Tecnológico de la Producción (ITP) maintains a Technical Agroindustrial Unit in Ayacucho, there is a noted absence of a specialized CITE agroindustrial center in the region.
The agricultural sector remains vital to Ayacucho's economy. According to Ceplan, the sector's contribution to the region's gross value added rose from 13.8% in 2013 to 16.7% in 2024. Additionally, agricultural exports increased from $41.1 million in 2018 to $62.1 million in 2024, driven largely by Andean grains. Data from INEI also indicates that agricultural production in Ayacucho grew by 20.1% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
