Ayacucho transporters threaten protests over Vía Libertadores road conditions

Heavy cargo transporters in Ayacucho are threatening new protest measures due to the lack of progress in maintaining and recovering the Vía Libertadores highway. Edwin Canales, president of the Ayacucho Heavy Cargo Transporters Association, stated that despite the road being declared in a state of emergency for 180 days following protests in April, promised works have not materialized.

Canales noted that the Regional Government of Ayacucho committed to repairing approximately 71 kilometers of asphalt between Rumichaca and Occollo, but no work has begun after nearly four months. He also highlighted the critical condition of the section between the Libertadores community and kilometer 143, describing it as a dirt track rather than a paved road. This deterioration has increased safety risks and led to frequent accidents on the route.
