Ayad Al-Saffar explains failed Stockmann acquisition

Ayad Al-Saffar, the owner of the Swedish department store chain Åhléns, has provided details regarding the failed attempt to acquire Stockmann. Speaking to Helsingin Sanomat, Al-Saffar explained that the transaction stalled during its final phase due to opposition from a landlord.

Al-Saffar noted that while progress with Sokos was achieved quickly, the process with Stockmann encountered significant obstacles. He identified specific challenges facing Stockmann and suggested that the company's future success may lie in being part of a larger corporate group.
